Doreen Allen was special to me in many ways. She used to call me her favourite son in law, but she only had one son in law! As a family we got through this terrible illness together. Without each other you cannot do it. It is a mountain to climb and should not attempt it alone. Doreen despite her illness was bright, she had a wonderful smile that lit up the ward. Despite being unable to speak her eye contact was good and with the help of the alphabet board and lightwriter we got by. She would tell us to get orange squash for the lady in the opposite bed or ask if all the other patients could all see the television set. Doreen's life will never be forgotten because of the helpful & kind person she was. Her example to others speaks volumes. You cannot sum up a person in just a few phrases and I would not attempt to do that. Before signing off I want to go back to where we began, to give hope to people and their families who have the disease, we will continue to raise funds and awareness and maybe one day a breakthrough will be made! take care!
