Mrs. D. J. Allen (St.Austell) A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral service of Doreen Jane Allen, aged 70, of 28, Dobell Road, St.Austell which was conducted by Reverend Derek Balsdon at Penmount Crematorium on Monday 26th. March. Doreen was born in Ipswich in 1936, the first child of Samuel & Emily Corbyn. She attended Christchurch Secondary School in Ipswich and worked at Pawsley’s the Newsagents. She met Gerald Allen while he was serving with the RAF Regiment. She followed Gerald back to Cornwall where they married in 1955. They were blessed with four children. Doreen was a kind loving wife and mother who paid special attention to Tina her daughter with learning disabilities. As the children grew Doreen found work as a cleaner and worked at various premises making new friends along the way. Away from work, Doreen kept busy enjoying her love of country music, square dancing, line dancing and doing voluntary work at Trevarna. Doreen helped run the Lone Star Country Disco and supported Gerald teaching line dancing locally. She fulfilled a dream to visit Nashville and Graceland in 2006. Last year Doreen’s health deteriorated where she was confined to home, Gerald looked after her until she was admitted to Treliske Hospital. Motor Neurone Disease was diagnosed, She spent the first few months at Treliske Hospital before being transferred back to St.Austell Community Hospital, where she passed away. Doreen will be remembered by everyone who knew her for being a wonderful caring person who did so much for so many. Family mourners were, Gerald(husband) David (son) Shirley and Jeremy(daughter & son in law) Gerald and Rose(son & partner) Tina was represented by Natalie Green. Shelia & Clive Denny(sister & brother-in-law) John & Jackie Brooks(brother & sister-in law) William & Tricia Brooks(brother & sister-in-law) Peter & Jill Allen (brother in law & wife), Audrey & Michael Curtis(sister-in-law & husband) Grandchildren, Jason Allen, Scott Allen, David Allen, Matthew Allen, Julie Jackson & partner Karl Webb. Derek & Sheree Allen, Donna Allen (nephew & nieces) Many close friends attended including Kathleen Warne, Bill Jones, Lynn Carter, Stephen & Sue Gregory, Pat & Les Burgess, Celia & Roy Trethewey, Wendy & Mike Dunn, Terry & Florence Hughes, John & Rose Jackson, Richard Curtis, Basil Towsey, Peter Austin, John & Julie Chappel, Anne Taylor, Jean Bullock, Joyce Andrew, Christine Corin. Representatives attended from Cornwall County Council Education Office and Heavy Transport Country & Western Club. Unable to attend were Tina Allen(daughter) Hazel Shedd & Earl Shedd(sister & brother-in-law)Ray & Diane(step brother & wife) Pam Sullivan(step sister),Julie Geerdes(niece) Peggy Brown (Hull) Betty(Ipswich) Mary & Denys(Trispen)Valerie Gregory(neighbour) Carol Franklyn(neighbour)Billow & Geoff, Janet & Peter(Cousins) & Gertie(aunt) There were family flowers & donations were for Motor Neurone Disease Association. Funeral arrangements were by Ken Newcombe’s Funeral Home, St.Austell.
